July 1, 2000, special day, "The Boy" (as I call my Ducati Monster 750) was born. The bike was purchased from this wonderful man named Edwin Soucy that owned a small shop in Worcester MA called Moto Italia. The day prior to The Boy being born, Ed (as everyone called him) allowed me to test ride his own bike that was fully loaded with all the bells and whistles that a motorcycle Ducati lover would want. After my test ride, I said to Ed, "I will be here to pick up a bike tomorrow, here is my deposit. I want a red one". It was love at first sight. However, I had to settle for the simple version due to a lower budget. The bike has been my loyal partner all those years. Together we created many adventures, but the dream of feeling the pavement on the track was never realized. 14 years later, I decided; it was time, to go on a small adventure and learn some cornering techniques at the track. Penguin Road Racing school in Louden New Hampshire offered the Women's Track Day in June. My dear friend Michael Walsh assisted by sharing lodging in his camper on site adding value to the experience. He said that staying on site is so much more pleasurable for the enjoyment of the track experience because you are there, next to the garage, with your bike. In the morning there is no need to carry all your gear. He was right, the facilities offered everything needed for my comfort. At the end of the day, my muscles were screaming at me. It felt like I had spent a full day skiing at the mountains in Colorado. Wow!!! What a thrilling experience to ride this bike on the track after so many years. My dream of riding my Ducati Monster on the track finally became a reality. Besides fulfilling my long time dream, the other goal of the day was to gain new cornering techniques. I got that, plus more. As a teacher, I firmly believe that you can never stop learning, thus, the fun class. Will do it again next summer if the opportunity is available. Highly recommend taking a course like this to enhance your riding skills!
